A place for
more than summer.

Fresh leaves, changeable skies and the return of long walks. Bring waterproofs and let the forecast shape the day.

A FEW THINGS WORTH KNOWING

Arrive prepared.
Stay curious.

01

Getting here

Fužine lies in Gorski kotar, inland from Rijeka. Road access is via the A6 corridor and the Vrata exit. Rail is an option on the Zagreb–Rijeka line; check current services with HŽPP before planning around a train.

02

Make a weekend of it

Use the village as a base for the lakes and nearby countryside. Look for a small hotel, guesthouse or holiday home; confirm parking, meals and arrival arrangements directly with your host.

03

At the mountain table

Look for the flavours of Gorski kotar: seasonal mushrooms, forest fruits and hearty local cooking. Menus change, so ask what is in season and reserve ahead on busy weekends.

04

Travel thoughtfully

Stay on marked paths, take your litter home and give wildlife space. Forest routes vary in difficulty. Check the forecast and local conditions, and choose a route that matches your experience.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Before you go.

Where is Fužine?

Fužine is in Gorski kotar in Croatia’s Primorje–Gorski Kotar County, inland from Rijeka and the Kvarner coast.

What should I see on a first visit?

Begin with Lake Bajer beside the village. Add Vrelo Cave with a confirmed guided visit, and consider Lake Lepenica or Lič if you have more time.

Can I visit Vrelo Cave all year?

The official visitor service describes year-round operation with opening times that change by month. Water conditions can affect access. Check current arrangements before travelling.

Is Fužine suitable for families?

The lakeside setting and short outings can work well for families. Choose routes for your children’s abilities, supervise them near water and remember that some cycling routes include roads.

Can I get to Fužine by train?

Fužine is on the Zagreb–Rijeka railway corridor. Check the current HŽPP timetable, connections and any replacement transport before making plans.

How long should I stay?

One day gives a first taste of Bajer and a prearranged cave visit. A two-night stay leaves more room for the other lakes, Lič and weather-dependent walks.
